This is my first Chase card, and I did not realize this when I appied. (But thank god I noticed before putting any foreign spend on the card).
3% is higher than all my other cards, including Amex. So be careful if you use this for any foreign charges, especially tickets or hotel rooms online where sometimes the charge will originate in the home country of the hotel, airlines, or booking engine.
3% forex fee is pretty standard.
Your AMEX - depends on what type of AMEX card you have - if it is an AMEX AMEX, you lose far more in the exchange rate used by AMEX.
Chase has other cards that dont charge 3% forex fee - all Chase issued hotel affiliate cards dont. BA card does not, so as Chase's own Sapphire Preferred, to name a few.
You, as the applicant, should pay attention to what the fee table is, on the card you apply.
