I usually purchase B fares and have traveled mostly LAX-JFK but have switched to the LAX-EWR route. Instant upgrades on all trips so far and I will gladly take the lie-flat AVOD on those routes over row 9 and burning regional upgrades.
I guess it just depends. I'm not willing to trek over to EWR from Brooklyn just for lie flat. Especially if I need to depart in the morning. If I am heading out from the office, EWR jumps to the top of the list.
Thankfully no LAX/SFO-NYC ns in Y for four years now.
