Sauna in the sky.
Has anyone else noticed now uncomfortably warm it is in coach class on united's triple class service from Lax to JFK? Just finished my second lax to JFK red eye in 3 weeks and emerged from the plain in NY completely drenched in sweat
After the first hot flight last week, i decided to bring an IR non contact thermometer on tonights flight and collect some absolute, not subjective temperature data
Sure enough, first class averaged 72'. Business class averaged 73' coach averaged 83 degrees and the aft gally was 74' no wonder the flight attends were indifferent and un-suportave of my requests to lower the temperature in coach
Talking with the Captain (Captain Bob) on flight 912, ms. Xix, she explained that on the triple class 757-200 plains the coach section is always warm and customers often complain. She hypothesized that it may have something to do with how they converted the airships from two class service to three. After seeing the Mickey mouse way they put together the first and business class galleys, it makes sense that balancing the cabin HVAC service might have also been less then well thought through
Well yet another fun thing about this merger to learn first hand. As complementary upgrades are absolutely forbidden on the triple class service between lax and jfk, travelers wishing to avoid the complementary 36,000 foot Sauna might want to use miles (plus cash) or upgrade vouchers to sit in the sub 80' seats, or choose the incredibly wonderful lax to newark service operated by folks who more times then not at least try to look like they care.
Without question flying on the new united is much more dignified and enjoyable if you stick to plains and routs serviced by the old continental crews. One more thing for frequent flyer to check before ticketing.
