You could have pulled out your copy of the Quran and read that loudly; but I suppose that might have been less well tolerated.
Seriously, I am somewhat jealous of all those people who experience these sorts of things. I never seem to get a chance to confront seat poachers, overhead bin re-adjusters, bad parents, religious zealots and the like. So many good comments saved up (both my own and a lot from FT'ers) but never a chance to use them. Sigh.
