Basically, the policy prevents active AMR employees from being paid AC members, not from entering the clubs. AMR employees are permitted to use the lounges (Admirals Clubs, Flagship Lounges, and the LHR Arrivals Lounge) when their status or class of service permits it. For example, if an AA employee is traveling in Business class to Europe, or has AA Platinum (or OW Sapphire) status, he or she should be allowed to use any Admirals Clubs en route, just like anybody else.

Furthermore, AMR employees are welcome to purchase a QP membership or become an AMEX Platinum cardholder, both of which confer lounge access when traveling on AA.

I know some AA employees who have obtained elite status on their own through buying/flying revenue tickets (even when they can fly for free/cheap), and one in fact is a 2MMer (PLT for life). He mentioned that he often confuses the heck out of the TAs/GAs when they aren't sure whether to treat him as an employee or an elite status member.
