It is a sad day
I called to cancel my AMEX PLAT due to my $450 annual fee comming up.
The reason I am cancelling is that the rest of 2012 will be slow in terms of travel due to an addition to family.
I called and tried to get retention bonus, most that I was offered was $50 credit, no MR bonus points, I was dreaming of 20K like others and then transfer to BA with 50% bonus.
I mentioned that there are no bonus categories like Chase or HH. Offered to apply for Gold, no bonus.
Finally CS agent was pretty frank stating that I had not charge a lot. True.
Evidence that the more you charge, the more retention bonus coming your way!
It was a great 12 months, I did use it a lot, priority pass, AA club, Airline Credit, and +130K MR points in bonuses! All to BA during 50% bonus.
By far the best card I have had and best CS agents, plus well worth the fee.
When my son is older and travel picks up, I will apply again.
