Sorry but a related case has been brought before the German courts. One can disagree who "won", but the net result is that LH can reprice the ticket.
This topic is periodically raised in this and other forums. I am always puzzled by posters who make broad statements based on their "intuitions".
The facts are that many airlines are increasingly enforcing their commercial contract accepted by the customer and which states that all segments must be used and in the order purchased. Indeed, the airline will not take you to court, but they have other means. The most common way is when you buy the ticket from a TA, then the TA is assessed the price difference. Some airlines have been targetting the pax FFP.
