I was just in Osaka and went to "Spa World". Loved it.

The concept is somewhat cheesy - public baths that resemble traditional Roman, Mediterranean, and Japanese-style. But the price is great, and the scenery ain't bad either (if you catch my drift).

It's located about two blocks from the Dobutsuen-mai station (take exit 6), go left under the train bridge and then right on that very first block (in a building that looks like any other).

Spa World is 6 floors. The top floor is exclusively men. You have to buy your day pass on the main floor from a vending machine (they're currently offering a special 24hrs/1000Y deal). Then, you present your pass to a cashier who puts a wristband on you. Then, you put your shoes in a shoe locker on the main floor (it costs 100Y, but you get it back when you leave). You can then go up to the 6th floor, or do what I did - go to the 3rd floor where it's all massages. You have to pay extra, but I had a killer legs/calves massage for 4000Y/40 minutes. They also have foot treatments, back treatments, and massages for everything on the third floor.

Now, the 6th floor is interesting. I expected to see a much-older crowd. To my surprise, it was a young hipster group of Japanese men. Some were probably gay, but others were not. I watched a Hollywood movie in a hot bath with cute, naked Japanese men (THAT was interesting!). The baths are immaculate, really beautiful. Even the outside Japanese-style soaking tubs were wonderful. You're asked to completely disrobe and wrap a tiny orange towel around your waist (it fits most Westerners like a handkerchief), but everyone there - like all the Japanese - are respectful and tolerant. There's also saunas, a cafe/bar, and an area where you can lay down and go to sleep. You have to pay an extra 100Y for a locker.

I came across a guy who went from bath to bath reading a book. The entire floor is spacious, and there are lots of little nooks to enjoy your privacy if you're shy about being naked. They even have individual vanity stations for guys to wash or comb their hair afterward.

I loved it here! The baths were great, the men were beautiful (on the Friday night I visited), and my leg/calf massage was amazing.
