Yeah some venues in Italy were a rip off. €5 for fries and a sandwich, and then (without specified somewhere) €8 for a soft drink!

Bakeries who sell bread and sandwiches in Amsterdam are mostly good and very cheap. I recommend Bakkerij Bart.
