My experience has been just the opposite. I have done 3 YYZ-PVG round trips in the last 12 weeks, and one YVR-PVG. All in Y, in each case Y was no better than 65% full - on a couple of flights it was under 50%. I always buy the exit row to ensure I have good leg room. Starting to feel foolish about this as many people in Y have an open between them and the other pax and some have a whole row.
