First of all, UA had the most generous FF program for many years and in this competitive airline environment it had to be re-aligned. I still fell it is pretty good as a 1K even after 11 years.

The merger is bound to be a cluster but I traveled EWR-IAD-DCA (AA)-DEN-DFW-IAH-LAX-IAH-EWR with 9 checked in bags and apart from a few calls to get tickets re-issued (Which was ultimately the fault of the corporate TA) everything went smoothly, nothing was delayed, upgrades happened.

Our society has grown so negative, all people do is complain. I remember when I joined FT in 2001 how the UA thread was so informative (and the 1K program better) but I really don't see what the alternatives are, if you fly to Asia a lot. I think DL might be a better airline and more up to date on tech innovations, but their FF program sucks. AA is more generous but they don't fly much to Asia if building up your BIS status is important. And who know what will happen to AA's program going through bankruptcy.

I will remain a 1K with United, they have their shortcomings but once the merger consolidates and the fleets are brought more into alignment this company really does have great potential. And if you really want to pay the lowest Y and sit in C, you are living in a fantasy world. United needs to continue making solid profits to start the long road back to being vaguely competitive with foreign carriers' soft product.

I am really happy with this merger. Well done UA.

I'm probably with you on this. All my UA travel is long-haul ex SIN, so I have nothing to complain about (yet). I wont take the SIN-HKG 737 service - no matter how they try to pitch it, but I've had a great run with UA over the years, probably redeemed 60+ SWU's and redeemed something north of 3MM miles.

I've got a long-haul SIN-USA trip planned for end April, so I may use UA then - although I don't typically start all my US travel until the back half of the year.

I'm going to give UA a chance to get thru the transition and while I can appreciate the frustration for many of you, it hasn't caused me any grief. Ok, I haven't been sent my new 1K card nor has my wife's status changed (due to my MM) but these things to me are trivial...
