400k Avios should last you a long time, esp if you want to fly within the continental US or even Hawaii from LAX (only 25k RT). That's 4 flights for your entire family.
We take a trip from LAX to Taiwan, LAX to Hawaii also about once per year and LAX to somewhere within continental US perhaps once every 2 years.

1. How easy is it to find availability for LAX to Hawaii and for LAX to NYC using BA avios?
2. Can you use BA avios for LAX to Tahiti or LAX to Caribbean?
3. What is the best mileage program for travel within Asia (Taiwan to Shanghai)?
4. I learned from all the valuable info here that best use of BA miles is for domestic flights, US to South America. What is the best redemption value for US Airways miles?
5. I do not anticipate going to Europe until my boys are several years older. Nonetheless, among the programs that I have miles in (AA, BA, US Air, Delta; also Chase UR, Amex MR and SPG), what offers the best redemption for flights to Europe?

Sorry about asking so many questions. But, the more I learn from experts here, the more I am intrigued about other possibilities!

Thanks,
Jim
