I'm not saying it was RIGHT for the OP nor that they should not send a complaint in...but they can change passenger's seats. They absolutely need to do a better job notifying passengers when changes (EC to Y, flight delays, etc.) occur.
I have been moved out of EC due to a/c changes...FORTUNATELY, I was paying attention in advance and moved myself back to an EC seat.
Yes, I check my itineraries every day, once online and sometimes more using the app! DL has forced me into a learned form of obsessive-compulsive disorder. I doubt other airlines are any better.
