If the cost comparison is basic room vs basic room, then the CP would win for me since a basic room at the IC would only give you a premier room or a basic room plus club access

This is an interesting distinction. I emailed both hotels. I was comparing the cheapest room at the CP to a regular Shophouse room at the IC due to what they told me. The IC told me that to get the Ambassador suite I should book a Shophouse Room, so I asked them to provisionally book that -- and they came back with a booking for the Shophouse Suite. I've emailed back asking for clarification (they upgraded us to the Amb suite last time when we booked a regular club room).

The CP Changi replied that they don't upgrade to club rooms at all, but as a Plat Amb I get 4PM checkout and if I tell them when we are departing they will try very hard to extend our late check out as late as possible.

Will the IC allow us to use the club after checkout? If they do, that might just be the deciding point.

Yes, I've been to Singapore several times, and have stayed at both hotels. Hence, why I am torn. I enjoyed both.

I am leaning towards the IC mostly because I feel if we stay at the airport, we're less likely to get into town and do anything, which would be a shame.
