It seems like waste of point accrual do spread out the miles so much. If Delta has codeshare flights from anchorage to prudhoe bay (i.e. an Alaska Air flight operated with a DL flight number), I would aim to do the entire itinerary on DL to get the elite status quicker, and accumulate more points for those bigger trips you speak of.
