However it's calculated, whatever it's for - it means that despite my stash of Avios, I still cannot afford to use them to fly like I used to - to take my family for the odd long weekend to the US or HKG. I have enough miles for 4 to go, but it costs way too much (still relatively cheap to do, but too rich for my pocket)

At least the capping of reward surcharges in Europe means that it's now worth using Avios there - we're going to Stockholm to visit the BiL for Easter, £108 (plus Avios) for the four of us. Last time I did that, it cost me £5 less than just buying the tickets - and I would have got miles and TPs.
