I just got a letter in the mail saying that starting 4/13/2012, the mtvU card will no longer be offered, and that current cardholders will get a replacement Citi Forward card by 5/11/2012.
Same credit card number and same 5x bonus categories at restaurants/bookstores/music/movies. However, no more free TYP for sending in transcripts (which I haven't done in a long time).
One thing that is a negative is that this can stop someone from getting a bonus for the Forward card ... the highest I can find right now is a 10,000 TYP bonus for $650 in spend, but I've seen past bonuses around 15K as well. Any way to get Citi to give a bonus for an unwanted change of card?
I may give them a call myself, as I just received the same letter today. I don't really want to threaten to close it, because it's my oldest account (by about 3 years) and I don't want my score to take a hit simply for the possibility of 10-15K TY points. I work for Citi, too, though, but the retail bank, not the cards division (it has its perks, but also has some unfortunate qualities, too). If you call them, let me know how it goes, and I will as well.
