If you put $60K on the Reserve Card in a calendar year, you will earn 30K MQMs(EQMs), enough to earn Silver status without setting foot on the plane. However, as many threads have mentioned, Silver "ain't what it used to be"--many of the perks, such as priority boarding, are available just for having a DL Gold card. However, if you were to add 20K MQMs by flying or other activities, Gold status offers additional perks, such as SkyPriority access to the (usually) faster security lanes--plus a higher shot at an upgrade.
