Hertz Gold Plus Points or Marriott Reward points?

I don't need or want FF miles; my desire is saving on rentals or hotels.

I initially opted in to Gold Points and got the 500 free points for a rental. Then I noticed that I only get 1 gold point per dollar spent (excluding taxes, fees, etc). Since I usually book low cost weekend rentals, I'm not going to see many Gold Points.
Example: I have an upcoming 4 day weekend rental that comes to a total of $59.95 after all taxes, fees, discounts, etc. The rental would only get me ~29 Gold Points ($28.68 after $30 weekend rental coupon) so I chose to get Marriott Reward points.

Since I get 500 Marriott points for a rental, that seems like a much better choice. I value Marriott points at ~1 cent/point.

I assume that I can opt in and out of the Gold Plus Points program with each rental - someone correct me if this is wrong. It looks like I've just got to My Account, edit #2, Membership Details and check the box to earn Gold Plus Points.

OK, now to the meat of my question. What value do people place on Gold Plus points? Are they worth 5 cents/pt? 20 cents/pt? Other?
I have a ballpark idea but I'm curious to hear how others feel. Thanks in advance.
