Cool A Little Bit on the Side Part 1: The Alpes - Orcieres Merlette

As a little birthday present for my partner I had helped plan a trip to the Alps with her sister and her sister’s boyfriend. We drove for about two hours and a half until we reached our bed for the night in Prapic.

The four of us shared a room with dinner and breakfast included each day. Dinner was made using produce from the farm attached to the accommodation and was very good (Lasagne with a choice of desserts and Lamb Casserole the second night – breakfast was a basic bread, jam, coffee and fruit juice affair). After breakfast we took the ski lift from Merlette and set about our mountain walk round the lake and back to the ski lift again. We started on our trail late morning, had a little picnic for lunch and finished our walk around three and a half hours later. I'll let the pictures do the talking but it was an amazing experience.

Exhausted, it was time for dinner, then out for a drink in Merlette before heading to sleep.

The next day we walked on the other side of the mountains looking upon the areas we had visited the day before. This side was largely free from snow but just as beautiful. After an hours trek we drove into Gap for a very tasty and filling lunch before driving the rest of the way home. All in all a highly recommended trip which is great for those that love taking in nature rather than flying (skiing) past it at 100mph.
