Otherwise, a terrorist will simply drive to places like GPI without AIT and use that as their point of departure into the US aviation system, connecting from there to some other airport where they can board the flight they really intend to attack.

Unfortunately, Mr. Huggins, the premise that AIT is useful for screening passengers has been totally discredited both by Corbett's demonstration of the non performance of the machines and the TSA's admitting he was correct. If the machines don't catch entire areas on the body, it's useless, which is why many airports were apparently groping all AIT screen-ees after this story broke, full body gropes at that.
