I was trapped in Phuket instead of going to Bangkok because of the flooding, and I was still able to fly through and out of BKK because they have a flood control system that can stop pretty much anything, but down at DMK the airport was flooded almost immediately, in fact NOK had to move operation to BKK during that time.
You're right - not worth it to go to DMK if you're not in town. I forgot the OP wasn't stopping over. And wrong - the flooding issue was because of too much water behind the dams in N Thailand after an extra long wet monsoon. The bureaucrats should have been venting it earlier. After their screwup, they basically sacrificed the 'burbs' to save central Bangkok. DMK doesn't really have a flooding problem. wj
