I found this page vial google search becasue I just attended my Moms funeral. Here are some interesting facts. FOr the trip there I used Southwets medium priced fair as the "wanna get away" fairs were at bad times. This was flying from CA to Baltimore MD. The return trip was a "get away" fair, but still the total came to $950. My wife scheduled a flight for herself to come a day later on AA and her round trip (not bereavement discount) was $340. OK so she had to pay for 1 bag on top of that, (big deal). SO, SW having already such low fairs is BS. THe advice to compare other airlines is good. I will add to that advice: After comparing prices with other airlines, pick one of them. Even without bereavement discounts with another airline, on a last minute flight, SW is far from cheapest.
