I've done the Amtrak connection between SMF & Bay Area each way, but it was such a pain to get from the SMF airport to Amtrak if I didn't have time to ride the bus.

I used the SMF-SJC route a couple of times after landing in SMF on AA, and took CalTrains up from SJC/Santa Clara.

I remember when this route came out, there were one-way fares at about $30.
