There are three strands of Blue cards:

  • Blue from American Express earn Membership Rewards Express points, which can be linked to a Green, Gold, Platinum or Centurion account to participate in full Membership Rewards or Membership Rewards First.
  • Blue Cash which earns Dollars
  • Blue Sky which earns points redeemable only for statement credits to offset eligible travel expenses.


I do not know how American Express tracks Blue Cash or Blue Sky rewards internally. I could be with a pseudo Membership Rewards account, and it may be that one can exchange (for example) a Blue Cash card for another type and transfer the accumulated balance or that a mis-coded account could link to Membership Rewards, but it's not a published feature of the Cash or Blue Sky products.
