I have done the SIN-New York flight in both SQ F via FRA and non-stop in J. The non-stop flight has a better timing from New York to SIN and is faster in total travel time. You are also more flexibel in terms of what you wanna do and when. For the stop in Frankfurt you need to leave the plane, interrupt whatever you are doing etc.
