The problem here is that for the last 20 years our public education system has been graduating students who can't read and write English. As an employer, I have to deal with this every day. To make matters worse, today's teachers are products of the said education system, and thus didn't learn properly themselves.

These are the same teachers who now think they're worth a 15% raise over three years. (I'll refrain from ranting about they're, there and their, which are repeatedly used incorrectly in this forum.)
