There was a bloke on my inbound to LHR last night who insisted on using his iPad after everyone had "turned their devices off". 9D tapped the steward just in front on the shoulder and quite an amusing conversation ensued with the pax being insistent that he had turned the iPad off and the steward saying "No, I have one of those and that isn't off! Would you like me to switch if off for you sir?". The same pax then put his headphones back on just after touchdown, resulting in another exchange.

I have noticed that a lot of people seem to only put their devices in flight mode, and not actually turn them off. There are too many beeps, bongs and other silly noises shortly after the seatbelt signs go off for them to have cold booted their devices. I, on the other hand, have normally reached immigration before my iPhone has found a signal...
