I hear ya, I fly UA due to E+ and using a VDB to lower my cost. I do 2 TPACs in order to a get a good chunk of the 100k out of the way, and being based in NY each trip adds (or did before the devaluation) 6k . Since its leisure I try to knock them off around CNY (Chinese New Yrs) since there will be alot less people flying = empty seats usually on both sides of me. been lucky that my NY-Cali flights have cleared in C using CR1s and when possible I will leave a day earlier and do an overnight @ LAX (Hotels easier to get cheaper or with pts) so that Im very rested up for the TPAC flight/s

If I was using miles then C is very little premium over Y so I would go C
