We generally keep about £5-£10 on our OysterCards. This trip we wanted to do a lot of "touristy" things, so we also purchased 7-Day TravelCards from a Rail Station. They cost us £30 for the week (which we have otherwise just put on the Oyster), but we saved well over £100 on attraction admissions.

You must buy these from a National Rail station though - you have to show the orange and white tickets along with your coupon to get the 2for1 pricing.
