When I used to work in the city regularly there really wasnt the Charlie card as we have it now. If I still did I would get one that could be loaded up before hand for that extra speed/convenience. But as I only go into Boston now and then and rarely ride the "T" anymore (subway system here) I probably get single ride tickets. In fact, if I go into Boston, my forte has always been that I can in fact almost ALWAYS find parking. Yup, it's just one of those things I can do. Not every time but I would say about 90% which isnt bad considering.

Now, in NYC, I would probably buy a Metro card (reloadable) and preload it if doable. People use the subways there and cabs religiously and it's the best way to get around. In Boston you can really do a lot on foot and use the T only some of the time.
