I am female; always used to gain, until I got it together and really started being much more vigilant about what I eat on the road. I really, really love food, and trying out local cuisines is one of my favorite parts of my travel life. It is very challenging, because I am a small person. A key problem area is breakfast--at home, I always eat a banana and a scoop of low-fat yogurt, but traveling, I am usually confronted with a buffet at a 5-star hotel, a situation in which I find it very difficult to remain cool-headed. I've also benefited from increasingly unpleasant after-effects of alcohol as I get older, which by now usually leads me to cut myself off after one drink.
