La Partenope, Haymarket

A business dinner saw me out of my usual comfort zone, dining in Haymarket (and not in a rushed, between volunteer sessions way either). My colleagues enthused about La Partenope, an older Italian on the Dalry Road. Now, having been, I can see why. This is far removed from the trad tratts of Hanover Street, this is good, homestyle, robust Italian/Neapolitan cooking, where you are tempted away from pizza/pasta by just how good the other options sound. Carrying a range of specials, often encorporating some beautifully cooked fresh fish, plus an extensive a la carte menu. I still lust after the Provola dei Poveri, cheese baked with cherry tomatoes, olive oil and other goodies. This is as close to Italian cooking as I've found in Edinburgh, and well worth leaving the safety of the city centre for this rather more down at heel area of Edinburgh.
