As they point out, a metal detector could instantly detect such things. Using nude-o-scopes as primary scanners instead of metal detectors is dangerous! (And I'm not even talking about the cancer factor here)
Actually, it's a new video, not the old German one. This is a very interesting idea for a scientific experiment.
One can
accidentally leave an object containing a significant amount of metal in his concealed side pocket. Let's say it was an i-phone, or a camera, or other perfectly legal, innocuous object with enough metal in it to be a knife if it were shaped differently.
If the object is caught, a simple "whoops, my bad" explanation is given. If the object is not caught, just walk on by. An assistant can record each experiment, and the results should be noted, regardless. Once enough data points have been recorded, the data can be analyzed and discussed in a publication.
Such research would not only be valuable from an academic standpoint, but could also serve as a valuable service to the American taxpayers by demonstrating exactly what they are paying for.
