I pay for my "free upgrades" when I take connecting flights to stay on UA when I could take a direct flight and save a couple of hours. I pay more than the cheapest available sometimes double the cheapest fares so I can credit my flights to UA . I do this with the understanding that in the long run I will get the published benefits for maintaining a certain amount of travel with UA. If you can't understand why those of us who fly solely on UA and its partners get upset that the new UA is selling our published benefits without at least providing the same opportunity to all of its elites, I don't know why you are on here other than to troll.
