It's a change they think you'll like. But seriously, I see the OP's point. It would make better sense to provide UABux that covers the full cost of a beverage and let pax choose. Although, SMI/J would likely cover only 75% of the beverage price in doing this change in order to generate a new source of revenue, so... maybe you're right.
