I've been reading that Platinum and 1k members have been receiving drink coupons with their "welcome" kit. I'm a 1k, and as of 3/5 have yet to receive mine ... gripe gripe ... but that's another thread.

WHY do they give free drink coupons instead of free food coupons?

As someone who rarely drinks, I never use these coupons and end up giving them to friends or colleagues.

I do buy food on board, especially when running from one tight connection to another.

Everyone eats ... but not everyone drinks alcohol.

Probably a grandfathered benefit that no one ever gave any thought to today (back from when they had free food on board for everyone, but not free booze). Time to rethink this benefit!
