My advice:

Check the seat maps online a few minutes before boarding (hopefully there are no standbys) and find a row with a middle seat open. You're not likely to find a row from ~8**-12 (arbitrary) with also a window open.

Ask that person if they don't mind switching with you.

Done deal. You could also ask the GA - but they will cite policy (as they should). FAs are a little more lenient. You can even recruit an FA to ask the right passenger in Coach.

I would imagine the Elite sitting in Row 8C or 8D would be your first choice.
