This definitely true in the hubs, however in some of the smaller stations with clubs (BUF, GSO, RDU, TPA, etc.) do tend to be very good at keeping folks up to date, especially if requested.

I echo the aircraft tracking advice in this thread. At hubs in particular, though, they can always swap planes, get a backup crew, etc. to minimize delays, and you have to be prepared for that.
