I assume you have the Canadian Gold Rewards Card, with these terms which explicitly exclude taxis:


“Eligible Travel Purchase” means consumer purchases at American Express merchants whose primary business is the sale of travel services or travel bookings including merchants selling air, water, rail and road transport, lodging merchants and tour operators as categorized on American Express systems, excluding purchases at merchants providing local and commuter transportation services such as commuter trains, buses and taxis.

Membership Rewards points earned from Eligible Purchases are subject to categorization of and submission of charges by American Express merchants. If the merchant submits a charge using an industry code, merchant code or product/service code that would not categorize it as an Eligible Purchase, you will receive one (1) Membership Rewards point for every $1.00 of qualified purchases.
