EVA excellent alternative
Just returned to LAX from BKK via TPE. Yes they are not Star Alliance members but I was able to use EVA miles to save on my PE fare.
Service, food and Flight Attendants are a step above Thai Air in my book. The planes are in excellent shape. Arrival and departure times are similar to Thai Air. Yes it's not non-stop but in my book it's a great alternative as the Thai Air non-stops from LAX are going away.
