You aren't the only one. During my current stay in Sydney (through March 8), I have already met three Americans who assumed Mardi Gras in Australia was on the same date it was in the US. All of them left before the date of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade and party. SGLMG has nothing to do with the traditional Mardi Gras - it's a gay pride event - not a celebration of the "traditional" Mardi Gras.

Wish more people would research online before committing a lot of money to attend a major event. Sigh.....

But I will vouch for NYC2TheWorld and agree that you will DEFINITELY have a good time in Sydney no matter when you stay here!
