Like you I am trying to achieve the same thing. Using Award Nexus yesterday I spotted two seats SYD > LHR in First were available for a date in Feb 2013 which gave me the idea of doing an open jaw routing.
So you could fly to LHR > HKG and then return SYD > LHR using your 2-4-1. You could then use any spare miles to take a CX flight from HKG to SYD. The HKG to SYD sector is long, but not as long as the other sectors and so, from what I've read here, it fits with the IATA rules.
Presumably there are other open jaw routes available, but I haven't (yet) investigated those.
