2-for-1 needs to be on BA metal. The only BA metal that lands in Australia is SYD. Which now only comes from SIN.

General thoughts:
If you are worried about costs, don't buy miles (unless you only need a fraction to make up to the award level).

If you were willing and/or interested in a stop over (even just 24/48 hours) this will rapidly increase your flexibliity. As you don't need to get two longhaul redemptions available that connect perfeclty.

You could then use the 2-for-1 on the flights from London to your stop over point(s). And then do pure miles redemptions and/or cash fares from there.

Is this business or economy you are interested in?

Also, if worried about costs, where are you based? If this is a premium cabin redemption, it might make sense to originate outside the UK even with positioning flights, to aviod UK air passenger duty.
Thanks, this is the sort of information that is really helpfuly. Not heard of AwardNexus, but haven't found the BA website to be that accurate. We book CW each year to Orlando and it rarely has the dates we want. Whenever I call to look at other options (like flying into Tampa) they always tell me that the dates I wanted are available. So I figured I maybe get more options from calling.

Thanks for clarifying that BA definitely only go to Sydney as that was one of my queries, so it certainly rules out one of my options. Stopover would be considered. However, we're going over to see 4 cities with a view to assessing suitability to emigrate there, so time is precious, as my Husband is limited with time off work.

It's business we're interested in. Based in UK.
