Taking a lift by itself would not be the end of the world, but you tend to converge with lots of other people taking a lift to get to the Arrivals lounge and then leave it. The lounge works well when you have hand luggage and can use the escalator but I do think it is a PITA with more substantial baggage.
About once in every half a dozen visits to the Arrivals Lounge, I've had to share a lift with someone else. It's probably just a personal idiosyncracy of mine, or I may just be lucky with my arrival and departure times, but it hasn't bothered me.
