That's only if you cash out in some way. If you play your cards right, you can get 5-10 cents/mile when you redeem.
Transfer between UA accounts: 1.5c/mile
Buy RDMs with a flight: 3c/mile (last I checked, though I think I checked on CO)
Buy miles: 3.5c/mile
