I think it's because Delta sets up a competitive atmosphere with UG lists, standby lists, only 3 hour SDC windows, low/med/high awards, expensive/difficult int'l UG's, opaque award searches, fares on DL.com that randomly increase once you accept the fare shown, sky priority etc etc.
So it breeds a culture of competition.
Also, because the fares are so high, most flyers on DL feel ownership in their DL experience.
I believe that some of this is quite true.. Travel can be stressful, and the airlines are not making this any easier.
I wish that we could live in a perfect world, but since we don't, this forum provides an outlet where we can rant about those that entertain and sometimes irritate us during our travels.... This is really nothing new. It's generally in good fun, and is basically a stress reliever.
I like the DL forum more than a number of others. It is quite diverse and MOST here have a pretty decent sense of humor...
