If you don't need the benefits of the Aeroplan Plus Platinum card (you're already an Elite, so really you'd just be getting a free short-haul companion reward ticket), I highly recommend the Amex Gold charge card as amorphous suggested. Membership Rewards points are more flexible than Aeroplan points IMO and you'll have the same level of protection / insurance as you have with your Amex AP Gold card now.
