Guangzhou and Beijing both have guardians at the front of the Business Class queue with a manifest checking names off a list. If you are a Gold/Silver in Economy, you get politely redirected to the OLCI queue instead. Experienced this last week (although I was in Business Class so I was allowed through).

I am not the only person who has experienced this. It is different in most European and GCC stations (although Europe is also changing in my experience) where they still maintain separate counters for Gold/Silver next to the Business Class counters. But in many stations in Asia and Africa, that is simply not the case anymore.
