Agreed that DTW doesn't have as many weather delays as airports like ORD but the problem could be that the incoming aircraft doesn't arrive, which could cancel the last flt. Also, others will also be looking to SDC to an earlier flt and Medallions likely will fill the seats long before the OP even has a chance.

Same thing would happen if OP tried to take the first flt the following morning. If there are no seats, it would be impossible to attend the wedding. If this event is important enough, better to avoid the risk and fly out earlier. Indeed, if bad weather is forecast, may be best to leave an entire day earlier. Nothing like enjoying an extra day in the sun in Florida in the middle of winter.
